Vision Mission Passion Action | VMPA – A Methodology for Operations & Leadership
As a COO, operation manager, or leader within a company, it is your responsibility to guide the business towards success and make a positive impact in the world. Efficient business operations are an absolute must, however, they can never be actualized without effective leadership that leverages the concepts of VMPA: Vision, Mission, Passion, and Action.
At the heart of VMPA is the idea of synergy, or the belief that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. When a business has a clear vision, mission, and passion, and when all team members are aligned and working towards these common goals, the potential for success is greatly increased.
But what exactly do these concepts mean in practice?
Vision
The vision for this business should be to fulfill its obligation to both the company and to humanity, helping people to flourish and reach their full potential through the innovative products or services offered. This vision should be fueled by a deep passion for the product or service and the ways in which it can improve the lives of customers.
Mission
The mission for this business should be to identify and utilize its unique capabilities to create value for others, both within the company and beyond, through the delivery of exceptional products or services. This mission should be driven by a shared passion for the product or service and a desire to make a positive impact on the world.
Passion
Passion is the driving force behind the mission and vision of this business. It is the unwavering belief in the potential of the company, its people, and the product or service being offered. It is the enthusiasm and energy that keeps the team motivated and inspired to achieve greatness.
Action
In order to realize the mission and vision of this business, decisive action must be taken. This includes building a workplace culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning, and continuously seeking ways to improve and evolve the product or service offering. It also means upholding the principles of the company and holding oneself and others accountable to them, even when faced with challenges or temptations. By doing so, this business can not only achieve success, but also become a force for good in the world through the positive impact of its products or services.
As a leader, it is your responsibility to regularly communicate the vision, mission, and passion of the business to all team members, and to ensure that these values are reflected in all aspects of the business, from decision-making to daily operations. It is also important to create a system for tracking progress towards the vision and mission, and to regularly assess and adjust the strategies and actions being taken to ensure that the business is on track.
By leveraging the concepts of VMPA, you can create a culture of synergy and excellence within your organization, and drive the business towards its goals and objectives. With a clear vision, mission, and passion, and a commitment to action, you can inspire your team to greatness and make a positive impact in the world.
-Note – While working at inTest, I was first introduced to VMPA by my leadership mentor and former Director of NASA engineering for 20 years, Mr. Bill Brooks. VMPA is a core tenet of kicking off every new job, project or role I take on because it generates results that matter. Also, I’ve been having fun exploring AI ChatGPT for knocking out some quick posts and this post is the result of bouncing back and forth my own thoughts with chatGPT to quickly consolidate and present VMPA’s core objectives for this blog post.
